Frequently Asked Questions
Here, you will find answers to many common questions regarding the KJ Pro program. Browse through the following questions. If your question is not answered below, contact technical support over the phone or by e-mail. Visit the "Technical Support" section for more information on getting help.

Question #1: What’s the difference between the "Update-Main" songbooks and the "Custom" songbooks?
Answer: A useful way of looking at it is that the "Update" and "Main" songbooks are really just two custom songbooks that have permanent names: "Update" and "Main". You can’t change the name of the songbook, as you can with the "Custom" ones. They’re handy for people who just want to create one songbook and don’t want to bother with naming it. Also, you can easily move songs from one to the other. Other people ignore the "Update" and "Main" songbooks and just create "Custom" ones, for maximum flexibility. Some use both. It really doesn’t matter. All songbooks have the same functionality and print songbooks that are indistinguishable from each other. If you want to create multiple songbooks or create your own library of songs to copy to other songbooks, use the "Custom" section.

Question #2: How do I type in my own songs?
Answer: Go to any of the "View" (or "Edit") windows for your particular songbook so that the list of songs is displayed. Click on the "Add Songs" button on top of the screen. A new window will open where you can type in new songs in a row-by-row format.

Question #3: How do I copy songs from one songbook to another?
Answer: Go to the "View" (or "Edit") window for the songbook you want to copy songs from. Click on the button on top that says "Copy Songs". Select the destination songbook you want to copy to and click the large "Copy to…" button. If you filter the songs (so that only a particular disc or series is displayed), only the filtered songs will be copied.

Question #4: I printed my songbook and discovered a page that has an error on it. How do I re-print just that page without printing the whole songbook all over again?
Answer: From the Print Menu, click on the "Preview" button for the songbook with the error. Click on the "Printer Control" icon on top of the screen. Under "Print Range", type in the range of page(s) you want to print and click on "OK". Only the pages specified will be printed. You can also use this feature to specify the number of copies to print.

Question #5: How can I customize the disc numbers so they fit my own system?
Answer: Open the "View" (or "Edit") window for the songbook you want to change. Click on the button on top that says "Change Disc Numbers". This will open a window that lists the existing disc numbers in one column. Just type in the new disc numbers in the column to the right and click the "Update Numbers" button.

Question #6: Why is it that after I download the song database update, the songs are in the Master Database but when I go to create a new songbook the new discs aren’t displayed?
Answer: You probably didn’t do the last step in the update process. Go to the "View/Filter" (or "Edit") window of the Master Song Database and click the button on top that says "Refresh Disc Selection".

Question #7: I downloaded the song update, but I have no idea where it is on my computer. Where is it?
Answer: We don’t know. Unfortunately we have no control over where you save the file. Just before you download the file your browser will prompt you for the folder on your computer you want to save the file to. Remember this location! It’s handy to download it to your "Desktop". Windows will automatically put an icon for the file on your desktop and you can just click it to start the installation. If you don’t know where the file is, try the built-in Windows "Find" function. Click on "Start" and then "Find". Type in the file name. Specify in "Look In" that you want to search all of your "C:" drive, including subfolders. You’re looking for "KJProUpdate.exe" if it’s just the song update and "KJProgUpdate.exe" if it’s the program and the songs. When you find it, double click it. This will start the installation.

Question #8: Why is it that in some cases the songs in the Master Song Database are different from the ones on my actual disc?
Answer: Karaoke Manufacturers frequently substitute songs or change track numbers when they re-issue discs. This often happens when their licensing for a song expires and they can’t get it renewed. Or they publish disc information about the disc that is simply wrong. It is impossible to keep up with all of these changes or track the various manifestations of disc versions. While we strive to maintain an accurate database and make corrections, discrepancies between the Master Song Database and your individual discs are bound to occur. For this reason, it is absolutely essential that before printing and replicating your songbook you print a songbook "Sorted by Disc". You can use this report to compare it against your actual discs to make sure they agree with each other. If you are preparing songbooks for other KJs, provide them with this report so they can certify that it agrees with their own song library.

Question #9: How can I back up my songbooks?
Answer: All of your songbooks, whether they be Update, Main or Custom, are stored in a file called "KJProdata.mdb". You should periodically copy this file to a different location to keep for a back-up. The file can be found in the regular KJ Pro directory at C:\Program Files\KJPro\KJProdata.mdb. Don’t try to copy it to a 1.4 megabyte floppy disk. The file is too large – typically over 2 megabytes. Copy it to another location on your hard drive or removable storage medium, such as a Zip Disk or CD-Rom Recordable. If your system crashes, you can always re-install KJ Pro from the original program CD-Rom and then replace the KJProdata.mdb file with the one you backed up.

Question #10: How can I import songs from Excel? The Excel Import button doesn't work.
Answer: An easy alternative method for importing songs from Excel is with "Copy" and "Paste Append". Here's how:

1. Set up your Excel spreadsheet so the songs have the following column headings:

Title Artist Manu DiscNo TrackNo

(Note: If you've exported a songbook from KJ Pro, it will have a column called "Description". Rename this column to "Manu". If there is already a column called "Manu" in addition to the Description column, delete the "Manu" column and rename "Description" to "Manu". Sorry, this is a quirk in the program.)

2. Select the range of songs you want to copy, including the column headings in your selection. (KJ Pro needs these to match up with the fields in the program.) Use "Control+C" to copy them to the Windows clipboard (or "Edit" - "Copy").

3. Open KJ Pro and open the custom songbook you want to copy the songs to by clicking "View/Filter" under Custom Songbooks. Select your custom songbook from the drop-down box. Then click on the "Add Songs" button on top of the window.

4. Click the "Paste Append" button on top of the Window. Your Excel songs should be pasted from the Windows clipboard into your custom songbook.

Question #11: I'm getting this error during installation: "Error:  You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications".
Error Message: During the installation, the following error occurs even when logged in with an Administrator's account.

"You do not have access to make the required system configuration modifications.
Please rerun this installation from an Administrator's account."
Cause: Inadequate permissions are set to the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software' and the 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID' registry keys and their subkeys.
Solution:

Modify the permissions to the 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software' and the 'HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID' registry keys and their subkeys, to Allow Full Control for the Administrator, Administrators, and SYSTEM Groups.
